WebOS opens even further and Palm will help developers distribute apps outside the App Catalog.

Palm is making big changes today in San Francisco at a meeting where their two newest developers who came from Mozilla, will be talking about WebOS and its new ideas on Palm's new Open Source platform.
The biggest announcement in our minds is that Palm is going to allow developers to write open source or closed source applications and allow developers to distribute their free open source applications any way they choose. Also Palm will no longer charge the $99.00 yearly fee to developers who want to develop their applications in open source. If a developer wants to charge for their app they still have to submit it to the app catalog for $50.00.Developers who develop a free open source app will be provided a URL link for their app to be distributed in any way they choose. Users who use WebOS can install these apps by simply clicking the URL the developer has provided right in the browser on their phones. Free Open source apps submitted this way will not go through an approval process. This doesn't mean they will be excluded from the App Catalog no, the developer can also have the app put in the App Catalog. Those nay sayers out there saying Palm has the same approval process as Apple couldn't be more wrong as of today. The mobile world is changing and Palm wants to help lead that change. Palm is opening up to developers and end users and as I always say, this really is an amazing time to be a WebOS owner whether it be the Pre or the upcoming Pixi.

Yeah looks like that guy was wrong. lol Not to mention didn't we hear that he didn't even want to work with Palm. You can't just jump on a platform and start demanding stuff. Come on. Now that WebOS is so open you can't really complain. No other platform is that open.
