Palm lets us know they are doing okay, huge plans set for 2010 including more carriers

Palm had a meeting this morning discussing their plans and Jon Rubinstein briefly discusses some of their road map for 2010. Though it feels like recently Palm's momentum has taken a turn for worst as the Droid, Hero, and Eris come out here in the States making it Android's time to shine, it seems Palm isn't too concerned at this point and neither are analysts. They also talk a little bit about where Palm is at financially and after their last big sale in Palm stock things are looking bright and Palm plans on investing it all into applications, code, WebOS, and marketing in 2010.
Check out what Palm has to say about their plans for 2010 after the break...
Palm plans to have their line up launch on multiple carriers next year including a specifically mentioned 'Verizon' as well as new carriers in other countries. Palm goes on to note that in the past they have had products for sale through 100 carriers thus reinforcing that they know they need to get WebOS on more carriers to help increase the adoption rate. This of course has been rumored for a while and we have heard Verizon executive say it is coming to Verizon as well as a Tweet directly from a Verizon rep also reconfirming Verizon will carry the Pre. We don't know which phones for sure will hit Verizon, if it will just be the current Pre, a new model, and/or the Pixi but regardless any WebOS device on a carrier with a robust network and 89,000,000 subscribers be a big help.
Palm goes on to state that after its secondary offering Palm has over $570 million that will be invested into marketing, WebOS, and applications. There also has been rumor going around and speculation that Palm just doesn't have the resources necessary to support its new OS going forward but Palm seems to believe otherwise. With $570 million now and their plans on becoming cash flow positive sometime by the end of next year things are looking pretty good for Palm right now. Hopefully they will spend a few of those dollars on getting WebOS access to the GPU. Palm is also investing some of that money into their entire App Ecosystem.
Palm in their meeting still says that December will be the 'Official launch' of the App Catalog and they feel with some of the new tools and distribution methods they have planned, the App Catalog growth will continue to increase at a healthy rate. The official launch could mean anything from the beta tag coming off the catalog to them having a ton of new APIs and apps in store for us. We said before that Palm is rumored to get a plethora of new apps in December when the catalog is official and we will stick to that because we hope it is true if nothing else. Palm will also have their new URL distribution for developers which will break down the barrier the App Catalog might have right now and allow basically any app onto a WebOS device so long as it is not malicious or harmful to the device or WebOS. Along with their new distribution methods, Palm said they will also have new tools that will help developers integrate apps with other device functions such as the calendar. We are also hoping this also means the Camera, the Microphone, the GPU, and anything else developers need. We feel confident they will come through.
A lot of positive news today and things are looking bright for Palm. We'll have to sit on the sidelines and watch as Palm works their magic but if all goes as planned I think WebOS community will grow. the wai shouldn't be too bad as long as Palm keeps giving us updates and new features every couple of months. Even though 2009 was the official launch of Palm's new come back device it is looking like 2010 will be their year to shine. 2009 the year of Android and 2010 the year of WebOS?

webOS truly is an excellent operating system. I had an Android phone but I took it back, like all Google's products it was too rough around the edges.
