Palm Pre avalible for Pre-order one month before its launch, 5/17 not the release date?

I don't know how much of this is true, but according to an email from a Sprint Customer Service Specialist, we'll see promotional campaigns related to the release date one month before the offical launch of the Palm Pre. Not only that, "Once launch date is fixed, you will also be able to Pre-order this handset online." In other words, when the release date ads starts rolling out a month before the offical launch date, at about the same time we should be able to pre-order a Pre online(Maybe with its price tag?). That doesn't give anything solid as to when the Pre'll be released, but it does beg the question -- will rumored 5/17 make it to be the Pre launch date? Counting today we only have 22 days till we reach the 17th of May. Either way, only time will tell.

In the past Palm has had 1 month pre orders when releasing one of their smartphones, which is what I started wondering when April 17th came and went without the pre-order option happening. Maybe May 17th will be the pre-order date and June 17th will be the release date. To hold true to their word, Sprint/Palm can hold of on the release until June 30th since that is that last day of "The first half of 2009"
i am astonished that anyone who knows anything about sprint would quote communication from their "customer service" department, written or otherwise, as evidence of anything....
IMO only: If Palm doesn't get this phone to market well before the launch of the new iPhone, they're sunk. Running on a CDMA network and late to market is a bad combination. I'm not buying Palm stock. I own a Treo Pro and a TX and have own a Treo 680, 650, 600 plus about every iteration of the Palm Pilot, so I'm not a Palm basher. Rather a market realist.
I agree, if this stretches out until June I think it is a big mistake. There are so many great phones to be released in and around June like at least 2 new Iphones, Touch Diamond and Pro 2, The Garmin Nuvifone. And a lot of others. If this is true it is bad bad business. I switched back to Sprint in April for the Pre and have been stuck using my old HTC Touch (VOUGE) i am just a little frustrated with how long this is taking but also when we call for info. Just give us a real freaking answer for once! lol

June 30th is not the exact middle of the year.
In a non leap year the exact middle of the year is the 182 1/2 day. which if you bust out your calendar and check is noon on july 2.
Good things come to those who wait. You'll get it when you get it. Stop complaining about how long you've been waiting. I'd rather them prolong the release date to get all the bugs worked out. Look how long it takes for some gaming developers to work on games and finally release them. That's a video game you may play every once in while. We're talking about a piece of equipment you will carry with you EVERYDAY!
Spare us. You don't know jack about the release date, and neither does your alleged "contact" in Customer Care. People at Sprint are being show the door for even speculating about...being handed their last checks in company meetings, being made examples of. Of course you know this, but you post the BS anyway, and then CYA by spouting alot of maybe's, possibly's, and "I don't know if it's true"'s....How about this: If you don't have any facts, don't post supposition and bullshit? As per the growth of iphone gaming this is being common to launch some new and interesting game which are more digital and efficient then 8 bit games. I also like to play racing games on my iphone.
