Palm Pre Gmail + IMAP: Pushes with IMAP IDLE

The guys over at PreCentral have received an anonymous tipster, which is using the emulator, that stated the following information in regards to Gmail:
It actually comes in faster than my blackberry.
A developer of ChatterEmail which worked at Palm for some time has taught Palm how to properly implement IMAP IDLE for push. We just hope that this goes into effect for all email clients.

IMAP idle is terrible for battery life. Yeah it works... there's a reason BB batt life is so much better, though.
Yeah, email kills my Palm Pre battery. I pulled it off the charger before going to work and by the time I left work the battery was at 21% - yes, a standard 8 hour work day. At the time it was set to get mail manual. The nex day I changed it to get mail 24 hours and I left work wih 83% battery.
