Palm Pre To Show Off Cool Features Not Yet Speculated; Possible 4G?

Jon Rubinstein, who was instrumental in creating the iPod and Sugar Daddy investor, Roger McNamee, are going to reveal some new information about the Palm Pre. According To Walt and Kara's highlights:

Walt: "And they [Palm] are not only are going to come and talk in more detail about the Palm Pre than you have seen before, but they're actually going to introduce some things that haven't even been speculated, uhh, that the Palm Pre's going to be about to do that haven't even been speculated on the blogs, and they're going to show some cool features."

Rumors and Speculation have been floating around the Pre since it's announcement about some additional features. Could this be the surprise hardware announcement like the Palm Pre first 4G device? Sprint is ahead of the game in the LTE Wimax department with deployments already in a few cities. According to this news release, Sprint intends to roll out more Cities; will Experience Turbo-Charged Mobile Broadband in 2009: Atlanta, Honolulu, Charlotte, Las Vegas, Chicago, Philadelphia, Dallas, Portland, Fort Worth and Seattle. Also, all of the Sprint Now commercials have been touting the “America’s most dependable 3G network, bringing you the first wireless 4G network. Sprint, the Now Network.” Sprint may have something up it's sleeve to blow the doors off of the iPhone and that could be a 4G chip being shipped inside the Palm Pre.

What would make me camp in line is the ability to fully function (calls, messaging, etc.) over wi-fi if no cell signal is available. *That* would be really cool.

If 4G is true, would that be the reason why they are making us change our data plans?

"If 4G is true, would that be the reason why they are making us change our data plans?"

No, i would think that you would need an unlimited data plan regardless. The phone is constantly connecting to the web just by the nature of the OS, so without a data plan you wouldn't even want to get the phone. You would be better off with a normal phone.

It would be amazing if the Pre is available on the 4G network as long as it does not require a more expensive plan than the announced 3G plans. I will pay $125/mo for a shared 1500 min. plan with my wife especially for 4G.

The odds of 4G are between slim and none. The FCC would have had to test the 4G radio if it were there.

I kind of doubt 4G would be in the PRE; however, if it is that would blow away anything that is coming out in the market anytime soon (including the next version of the iPhone). There's plenty of new technologies that cell phone manufacturers are racing to put in their phones (i.e. OLED/HD screens), but the one thing that everyone and I mean everyone wants is SPEED.
