How many times have you slid open your Palm Pre's Keyboard?
PreThinkingYou won't go very far without sliding out the Pre's QWERTY keyboard ever so often. But have you ever wondered how many time you've done it? Well, here's how:
Go to Device Info.
Scroll down and hit More Info.
Get to the drop down menu and hit Interactive Tests. We'll talk about these hardware tests in another post.
You're presented with several tests to choose from, go to Hardware buttons.
Skip the first test.
There you have it... The total number of times the keyboard was opened/closed.
I've open/close the keyboard 2032 times(Hall sensor), and 2096 times (Optical sensor). So that means I've open the keyboard about 1000 times since launch day.

I can understand using a hall effect sensor.. but an optical one as well? Of course there's some light sensor for auto-adjusting the brightness of the screen, but logic would dictate that would be surrounding the screen on the face, not hidden behind the keyboard. It would be blissfully unaware of the status of the slider.

Wow, if there was ever a case for a screen based keyboard to backup this wonderful device this is it!
I am a fan of physical keyboards but can see the senselessness of not having a screen keyboard for those brief messages. Without it I can see the potential for increased device failure rates if you are doing that every day for a while.
Where are those pesky developers?

543/580.......hold habits are hard t break. For some reason each time the phone rings I automatically slide out the keyboard. Reminiscent of the slider phone.
@nud Totally dude, I had a slider for 2 years before the Pre and I'm trying to break the habit of sliding it up to unlock it and down to close out of stuff.

A Measly 124/125, but this is my 2nd Pre as 1st was a return. I've been giving the touchscreen a workout though.

The difference between the two numbers seems to have something to do with opening/closing the keyboard only halfway instead of all the way.
132/137 which isn't much, I guess I don't text a lot. I got mine on 6/10.
The title should say "slid," not "slide."
