That's all fine and good, but that's just complying with the GPL, I want to see the SDK released. That's when we'll really get the apps flowing.
I agree with Xsecrets in that it's time to see the SDK released! If the Pre is going to have any chance of succeeding, it needs greater App support and the only way to do that is to release the SDK so the developers can go wild. The fact that the App Store has only 30 apps compared to the iPhone's 50,000 is a big drawback.
@Matthew: I definitely agree with your statement, but at the same time I've been wondering lately how many of those iPhone apps are actually just "useless" fart apps and things like that. I've never had the opportunity to peruse the iPhone app store, so I have no idea, but I wonder how many good vs. superfluous apps are included in that number.
@Diesel Donkey: you are absolutely correct in that most of them are indeed utterly useless. For example, why in the world would I use a $500 phone as a digital level in a work-shop, especially when it seems like that glass screen would break just for sneezing the wrong way. My point is more that when you open it up, you'll get to see some really creative uses for the phones (iPhone app that uses the phone's vibrator to transfer contacts to another iPhone running the app, turning the G1's electronic compass into a metal detector, etc). Most likely very useless in principle but really exciting in showcasing why one phone could be better than another. Over all, I just need lots of apps to run so I can show off the snazzy multi-tasking :)
