First usable Homebrew App install on Palm Pre without root access: Pimp My Sounds (Notification Sounds Changer)

Video: Installing and Testing 'Pimp My Sounds' app.
There's no limit in what devs can accomplish these days... Or maybe it was Palm's openness to hackers? Either way, the Dev Team behind PimpMyPre has released a homebrew app that you can install on your Pre-cious right now without hacking/rooting. That's not the end of it, the app let's you customize your...wait for it...Notification sounds! Now you can drop that boring notification sound to something you prefer.
This will be the first of many, many homebrew apps to come.
How to get the App:
1) Click here to send yourself an email with the link OR Email yourself with this link: http://pimpmypre.com/pmptemp/com.pmp.app.pimpmypresounds.ipk (The app will only install if you open it via the Mail App on the Palm Pre)
2) Open the link from your Palm Pre via the Email App.Your Pre will freeze for a few seconds.
3) You can now find the 'Pimp My Sounds' app on the first page of Apps on your Pre.
[Thanks, @PhilSouthWick]
File is back online.
Updates:
- Ability to toggle between the default and your tones.
You still can NOT delete the App after installation, they're working to fix this ASAP.

I will be having a hard time waiting for the recommended update before DLing it. I'm eager to change txt message sounds to "Message for you Sir" from Monty Python's Holy Grail and e-mail sounds to "Incoming Transmission" from Blizzard's Star Craft.
ooo i'll have to get that "Message from you Sir" from Monty Python. right now I have "There is a message for you," as said by Hal 9000 from 2001 Space Odyssey on my blackberry that i want on my Pre.
What about the classic.. "I've got mail.. yayyy.. I've got mail.. yayy.." from Special Ed on Crank Yankers??
..obnoxious +1
omgosh too funny thats what i used on my treo! its the best notification sound ever lol cant wait to use it again on my "Pre cious" lol
Sweet!
I have a few sounds I made that I will post later this week.
It seems that Pimp My Pre has taken the file down from their servers, as when I emailed it to myself, nothing happened after clicking the .ipk link. Can anyone confirm that this isn't working for them, or am I just alone on this one? Thanks!
Weird, I click on the link in the email using the email app, but the app doesn't show up in launcher...
Thoughts?
Wonder if there's an easier interface to sending the IPK file instead of having to email it oneself on the Pre. This is really clever, I'm very impressed.
If weird things start happening, can I just delete the app like any other and have it go back to normal? If I do a Soft Reset will the app disappear? Just want to see if this is reversible before I try it.
Once the update is out, I'm definitely gonna have the "Mail mother f*****" notification from Eurotrip...
hysterical
I'm having the same problem as people above: I emailed myself the link. Opened it in the Pre email app. I click the link, it acts like it's going to do something, but nothing happens. No app appears in my launcher :(
They pulled the link for now.
From http://pimpmypre.com/2009/06/22/pimp-my-pre-ringtone-manager-released/ :
"APP REMOVED UNTIL DELETE ISSUE IS FIXED!
ALSO ADDING A RESET TO DEFAULTS!
BE BACK ONLINE SOON!"
Oh man! I hope they get it posted again soon! This was my number one issue!
Sounds kinda suspect. Might have to wait till they work out the bugs. Plus if I don't like it, I want to be able to delete it. It's good to see all these home grown apps popping up. Good things are on the horizon!
How do i upload these sounds to my phone?
I want to use the "Message for you sir!"
My sound is gone. From notifications to the closing app sound.
Please get the delete fast.
Looks good but I c an see this is a nice way for persons to install sypware and virus unto the PRE. Just send them the link and when clicked the app will be installed without the user's knowledge.
Palm will certainly have to improve security here! It's looking like it will be so easy to install Adwares and Spywares.
Works fine now. Posted from Palm Pre
i can only change my defualt tones i cant change e-mail or sms tones???why??please help
ok i read why thanks!
ok i read it thanks!
How did you get those extra features? All I have is change alert and notifications.
Dudes... in the screen shot up above it shows you can change email and sms, but after downloading it only gives you the option to change DEFAULT ALERT and DEFAULT NOTIFICATION. Did all of y'all experiance this as well?!?!?!?!?!?!
I'm having a similar problem. The only thing it shows as being able to change is the "Default Altert" and the "Default Notification"
I downloaded the app but it doesnt look like the pic. All I got under Alerts and Notications is default Alert and default notification. I'm missing the email, sms, and non contact notificaiton. Please help. Anyone else get this error.
@Princess V
The photo is of an older version of the App. Those options are not clickable.
does neone have a problem when you put a ringtone as your text message notification then you are on the phone wit sumone then the rington goes off in your ear and you cant hear the person you are talking to until it goes off? if so is their a solution for it
new pre update 1.0.4 fixes email install link. i just reset an tried reinstall no go.
ok app works but how come when i get a text the song or sound doesnt stop going off til it ends not when i tap the screen
Won't install. did 1.0.4 update break the installation ??
@Jim E
Yeah, Palm closed the loophole with the latest firmware update.
Any idea when you will have the app available for those who weren't able to get it before Palm sent out the update? I'm going crazy looking at my phone everytime it dings only to have it be for something completely unimportant :(
u actually can delete it if u open launcher then hold the orange button and tap on it it will let u delete it
i clicked on the file in my mailbox and it does nothing
Check out the site now and look at the posts on PreLoad. There are instructions on how to install it. You can use it to install any homebrew app, download ringtones, sounds and wallpapers and there's even a chat.
The next version of pmp sounds will have the extra sound options. had to put it to the side to finish PreLoad.
its still not working and im getting mad!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is why I always read the user comments before downloading any app. Looks like this one is never coming back to life.
