Palm Pre Software Update (webOS 1.0.2) Available OTA

I got my Pre, how about you?

If you haven't noticed yet, webOS 1.0.2 Software Update is available for download over-the-air right to your Pre, if it wasn't pre-installed when you got it. To check/download updates, go to your 3rd and last page of apps where all the settings and preferences are located at. 3rd row down you'll see the App 'Updates'. Run it to check for available updates, and you can download them right to your Pre via 3G or Wifi. Amazing right?

FYI, the update weights 67MB.

What's new in webOS 1.0.2?

  • The Clock App.
  • Many are reporting that the Pre is less sluggish after the update.
  • What are we missing? Add them down at the comment section.

I just got mine this morning. Playing with it now. On the phone, I don't see a feature to allow for extra digits that allows you to setup passcodes to call voicemails. Does anyone know if this is possible on the phone features?

I got my Pre this morning and I kinda disappointed. No video cam. The web browser cannot fit a page. Most pages come up illegible, then you have to zoom and index to upper left. Way too much work. Does anyone know how to set the browser for left upper justify or set a zoom resolution?

My complaint with the Clock application: it doesn't know what weekdays and weekends are. I set up an alarm to run on "weekdays," and it woke me up this (Sunday) morning.

As far as web zooming goes, I think it does a great job. Just double-tap on the column/section of text you want to look at, and the Pre very nicely zooms in to handle the width of that column. Sometimes even that's not enough and I have to turn the phone to landscape mode, but that works great, too.

Yet another person who can't pay attention to the fact that the Pre has a configuration setting to tell it whether the week begins on Sunday or Monday.

Calendar >> Preferences >> First Day Of Week

Welp, that'll teach me not to actually try something first. It *is* a bug.

Even though Marc Wilson likes to talk down to people. The alarm issue is a bug and Palm says they are working on it. This whole Calendar >> Preferences >> First Day Of Week
option is just that for the Calendar. Moving the day around doesn't magically make Sunday or Saturday
a weekday. They still fall under the weekend category. If you don't believe me look here. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Weekend

I like having the alarm clock but would love to see besides One time, Daily, Weekends, and Weekdays an option so you can set it for individual days much like in an app for windows mobile over at xda-developers called g-alarm.

Also a phone profile / person-catagory profile added to the contact list which would then also link with the calendar and system clock so you can set a profile on the phone depending on who is calling. Say for instance you want the phone to automaticaly hang up on unknown callers, or if your parents call during the middle of the night you want the phone to ring but for everyone else it gets pushed directly to voice mail with possibly a sms reply to the person calling. This could also be tied into the calendar to handle phone calls according to your schedule switching the phone to vibrate automaticaly. (kind of looking for some of the profiling features like they have in Photo Contacts Pro for Windows Mobile on the profiling side not the photo side)

what sucks to, is google maps, does not give you the option for street view, like it does on windows six mobile, hopefully these kinks get ironed out. And CURSOR directional buttons, would BE GREAT, as opposed to using ninja skills, to place the cursor in proper location,

June 10, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterme

Tthere is a built in directional mode. It is activated by holding the orange key down and then using your fingers to nagivate the cursor to the desired position.

The Calender reminder system needs to be like it was on the palm os where you can set a reminder for 3 hrs, Days or wks bfore or 2 hrs, days or wks before
I think that's a great feature that helps me stay organized with my long term events it's nice to get a 3 week before reminder for something I planned or booked 4 or 6 months ago

This is to address someone who said there's no street view in google map. there is a street view it's called satalite view.., Launch google maps press the menu button at the bottom right of the screen then hit the Satelite view option

Street view is totally different than satelite view.

to get more digits put your hand near the sensor and hit the dialpad option, duh!

honestly, the fone is just OKAY. i think i expected way too much. things that would really make the fone better are an on-screen landscape keyboard, having the capability to set SMS text tones, the ability to copy & paste ANY text, the ability to forward text messages, and last but not least, a video camera. =/

You need to allow users to set the text message alert. I can barely hear the preset ding dong. I am on call and I forward my pager to my phone so my phone needs to be able to wake me from a deep sleep. I need to be able to set the text message alert to something loud and obnoxious and right now I can't because of the current settings.

is this phone compatible with any blackberry messenger software?

August 4, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterem-ve

My work email is OWA and when I try to set up my email and my work calendar I get a message stating the security certificate is invalid or my date and time settings are incorrect. Is there a way to accept the certificate anyway and mve forward? I love this phone and would hate to switch for such a silly thing...HELP there has to be a way to keep me from going to iPhone!

You might be able to change work email address from https to http in the set up...

How about louder ringtones and the ability to change a text message ringtone and have the ability to change them for emails and etc. I am unhappy with it not have a video camera. Oh yeah, how do you forward a text message...no clue. tried almost everything.

I need the ability to increase the Loudness (Volume) of my Pre. Both the ringtone and the speaker could be louder. There was a program you could buy for the Treo that does this, but it doesn't work with the "Classic" application. Does anyone else have a low volume problem with their pre?

Perfect time to update...

How has no one suggested that the Pre alarm needs to have the ability to set alarms for individual days? Weekdays and weekends don't cut it - not at all! Not everyone has weekends off, not everyone has to get up at the same time every day.
