New Palm Pre Ad: Creepy Girl?

I've been seeing literally hundreds if not thousands of tweets about how the girl that plays in the new Palm Pre ad is "creepy" or "weird." I didn't find her disturbing or creepy in the first ad, so I was quite muddled. Then today I found the 'new' ad, the one everybody is talking about on Twitter. And to be honest, I don't find her creepy at all, well, maybe just a tiny bit...

What you think?

Update: Here's the 2nd, 3rd and 4th Creepy Palm Pre ad in the series. Don't forget to subscribe to our RSS feed for up-to-date Palm Pre news, or bookmark us.

No, I didn't think she was creepy. Maybe there aren't so many ads where a person is so directed to the viewer?

July 13, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterDom

my screen is starting to get scuff marks, but no scratches. i think it's time for some protection!! bring it on!

July 13, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterrawdeadfish

I don't find her creepy... but I do find the Palm Pre ads to be pretty awful.

July 13, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterBrett

I don't find her creepy really, just the way she talks. I have never liked the ads where they talk in a soft monotone voice, or narrate their thoughts to the viewer, it always comes across cheesy.

I do agree that the ads for the Palm Pre have been very disappointing. They don't show off how the phone works at all. It's like all these new ads for the Pre are teasers for the phone before it is released. At least release one like the demo that came out after CES (even if it is self-narrated) Show it bring in all your contacts from Facebook with their profile image, or actually multitasking from one app to another, as long as they are actually demonstrating what you can do with the phone.

Not creepy.

July 13, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterA.P.

@eKalb

Well said.

July 13, 2009 | Registered CommenterPreThinking

Nope, not creepy... I was really hoping when i saw the twit....

July 13, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterQbertGrey

I don't think she is creepy, but after watching the ad, I got a call I was going to died in 7 days.

July 13, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterrafakoy

Who is the target audience of these ads? Not me... Doesn't look like she's really doing much with her phone--wow, brought up a map that was already open!

At least the first ad with all of the dancers was visually appealing.

Is she a dancer? Hair in a bun and crossed straps in back like a leotard.

July 13, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterTomC

horrible advertising. not cool at all. they should fire the people that told them this crap was good advertising.

show the phone and the features or at least have someone cool or cool looking in the ad. and judging from this nobody at palm or that palm hires has any idea what cool is so i suggest they stop trusting their own instincts.

July 13, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterdubya

and yeah she's creepy

July 13, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterdubya

Totally creepy. My first thought was Cate Blanchett, but the way she moves/speaks is actually like a female version of Data from STNG. Could she be rendered?

July 13, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterSuman

Guess not:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tamara_Hope

July 13, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterSuman

She's not pretty enough, that's all

July 13, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterMina

Kinda young looking Nicole Kidman. Ya I agree the commerical is just awful, Palm and Sprint need serious help in the marketing area. No explanation of what the phone can do, and lack of apps to appeal to a larger consumer base.

July 13, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterLeke

Not, creepy... definitely could have been a better ad though... i'm sure only 1 and 10 people would watch that and actually be like wow i want that phone. i watched that and i was like... wtf green lights? this phone has an app that turns red lights green? .... wait now that i think about that... i would definitely want that phone if it was capable of doing that... hmm... touche

July 13, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterchali

bing. bing. bing... was that an unintentional bing.com plug?

July 13, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterkftgr

@kftgr

Haha, I thought the same.

July 13, 2009 | Registered CommenterPreThinking

She is a ghost...duh.

July 14, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterprebe

Just watched it again...and it is obvious. She is floating in the sky.

July 14, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterprebe

Remember, she's not creepy. The ad director for Palm made her creepy. Let's lay the blame properly.

July 14, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterDrew

i don't think shes creepy - her voice is creepy. and her hair makes her unattractive the way its slicked back

July 14, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterlace

ok definitely thought it was creepy. what a poor commercial. supposed to be the most amazing phone on the planet and THIS is what they come up with for advertising?! baaad commercial!

July 14, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterValerie Miller

She is the anit-christ. PROOF: When she turns around the buns in her hair form the number of the beast 666.

July 16, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterf

This is not a woman. It is one of those men who kinda look like a woman. This ad is creepy and after I finish writing this post, I am going to throw my computer into a fire to pruify it of the evil that has engulfed the circuits.

July 16, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterdrshapiro

Yes, the girl has been made to have that pale, simple look to be "artsy" but that's the character of the ad. I think she looks amazing! I guarantee if she let her hair down and was made up properly she would be smokin' hot. I like her.

July 17, 2009 | Unregistered Commentercracker

Not creepy, very, very cute.

July 17, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterJEB

Not Creepy at all. Reminds me of Vermeer's " Girl with a Pearl Earring".

July 17, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterCas

Her name is Tamara Hope. Check out her page at IMDB.com.

July 18, 2009 | Unregistered Commentercracker

Not Creepy! Way Hot!

July 18, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterTLR STL

I think she's one of the most beautiful women I've seen in my life.

July 21, 2009 | Unregistered Commentercj

I love the back of her hair, but her eyes give an odd vibe- a little Tilda Swinton-esque. LOVE the song!
Overall, I like the ad, mellow vibe. I dig it.

July 21, 2009 | Unregistered Commentermozette

She's annoying if you ask me. I really don't like the commercial. They could have put a hotter girl, where you can see the full body, in fish scales or something. maybe a hot mermaid.

July 21, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterJim

I think she is beautiful. I watch that commercial everytime its on.

She is a muse. A true daughter of Zeus.

She could inspire a man to write music o to paint a masterpiece .
What is she advertising?

July 22, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterwatcherkatt

The Palm Pre tv spots are absolutely horrid. The first time I saw it I was completely put off by the art direction and the droid-like quality of the actress. If I'm going to be influenced to buy an aspirational product by a talking head commercial, I'd better be able to identify with the talking head, or at least find him or her amusing. I certainly can't identify with robot lady, and the monotone haikus uttered from her plastic lips are hardly amusing, nor are they memorable. In fact, the only thing that sticks in my head is that, apparently, people who buy Palm Pre's resemble prototypes from Data's android factory on Star Trek Next Generation, in appearance, behavior and personality (or lack thereof). Awful, just awful.

July 22, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterGene

I don't find her creepy but I do find her smug and self absorbed - she's probably related to that guy who does the Lexus voice-over. I am not a violent person but I have this overwhelming desire to punch her in the face...

July 22, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterzax

Are you people serious? She is ridiculously creepy. She's actually significantly lessened my desire for a Pre because I'm afraid she's going to pop out of the screen like the Ring girl.

July 22, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterHW

on second thought, having read watcherkatt's comment, I would like to punch watcherkatt in the face

July 22, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterzax

bunk you. she is gorgeous.

July 23, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterbugs mckenzie

Creepy. Reminds me of the Borg Queen from Star Trek movies.

July 23, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterGG

The ad is terrible with that eerie woman with the weird...I hate it completely and if I were not an avid Palmist I wouldn't even know what the hell they were advertising as perks for the phone. The last ad I saw her had her talking about a woman juggling balls in the park. No one would even know how that correlates to the phone if they were just browsing for phones. It does nothing to pull you into the actual coolness of the phone. Why don't they just have an average Joe using the phone, gestures and using the internet and Facebook. I know it's supposed to be futuresque but if that's what the future looks like tell Tom Cruise he can keep his film Minority Report in the vault.

July 23, 2009 | Unregistered Commenteragoldenrose

She looks like a sister of that home alone kid (macally caulkron) sp?

July 23, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterWack

She reminds me of girls painted by the Great Masters...a quiet serene beauty... her hairstyle adds to this impression... the play of light as well... not a conventional modern beauty... maybe her slow direct manner of speaking to the camera has the effect of bringing a painting to life...

July 24, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterlongings

oh... and she actually played Tilda's daughter in the movie THE DEEP END (2001)

I love the back of her hair, but her eyes give an odd vibe- a little Tilda Swinton-esque. LOVE the song!
Overall, I like the ad, mellow vibe. I dig it.

July 24, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterlongings

I actually googled "i hate the palm pre girl" because i had had one-too-many of those commercials. it's such a facade and marketing ploy to get "artsy" people to buy this phone instead of the iPhone. but it just comes across as stupid and annoying to me. of course - don't get me wrong, i think the iPhone commercials are annoying too.

July 24, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterCaylee

I think she is kind of creepy, her voice, eerie calmness, the camera angles, the content....and I know this is weird, but I don't think she is wearing any mascara so her eyes look really strange to me, not that makeup is needed on woman to look good, but it just adds to the creepiness factor, she just looks odd, I mean its a commercial, you expect the actors to pull you in not creep you out. The one commercial with her on the rock and the circles of dancers around her is ok, but during the direct commmunication ones I shudder, especially the one where we approach her from behind her back.... ugh.

July 25, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterlesley

She's not creepy, she's freakin sexy! ;)

July 25, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterpatrick

She is pasty and looks like a ghost, Not very attractive on top of it, AND the ad itself is some CREEPY stuff.

Just that ad alone turned me off to the company and phone. It looks like one of those futuristic creepy subliminal ads.. and I went and got an Iphone. CREEPY to the max on these ads.

July 25, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterJvews

worst ad ever. awful girl. why would a company think she could sell their product? And sadly, I'm in the market just now for just such an overpriced device...it won't be the Palm Pre.

July 25, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterJody

Who listens to commercials? I'm fascinated with the hairstyle, can't see enough side, back and top views. How was it done???
