3rd Tamara Hope Palm Pre Ad: 'Reincarnation'

OK, this is what I feel about this 3rd Ad with Tamara Hope:

  1. What Reincarnation have to do with the Pre? Could just be me though.
  2. It's a Palm Pre Ad and yet only 1/3 of the Ad shows the Pre.
  3. The Pre was so far away from the screen, I could barely see what she was doing with the calendar app...

Was it intentional?

One has to wonder exactly how much this production company is being paid to churn out these pointless ads.

Unfortunately some "creative" types convinced the top mgt at Palm to be "creative." Did anyone look at how Apple positioned the iPhone? And created the "Want" for that device. I think the creative for Palm and Sprint has been less than impressive. And it's too bad as lots of bucks that are not getting a full measure of return.

Wow. This is not good. Rubinstein was right when he said he was a great engineer, but not good at marketing.

These are the worst ads for a product in recent memory. And yes.....they are CREEPY! Ditch this blond bimbo.

July 22, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterAdam

Hmmm... After the Pre, you totally forgot what a Treo or Centro or a Tungsten was...

That's how I perceived it...

The point was living "all your lives" -- implying Synergy merging all your calendars ("lives") together. Not very well done, honestly. They could have used the same ad ideas (juggling, multiple "lives" merging) but done it in a much more effective way. These ads suck -- well, beyond the first one which was visually interesting and generated attention for the Pre

honestly makes me want this phone less everytime i see a new pre add. i just don't want to be associated with this kinda lameness.

You don't get what the Pre has to do with reincarnation? Are you familiar with the company that makes it?

July 22, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterSam

@Sam

'We' know that but what about everyone else?

July 22, 2009 | Registered CommenterPreThinking

Now this has to be a cruel joke. Palm should invest its money into new updates, virtual keybored, better cut/paste. Then do a commercial with those new features. Only show the phone, no creepy lady or anybody for that matter.

July 23, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterVega

@Sam

the company's name is Palm. Instead of reincarnation I'd think they wanted to remind everyone of who makes it they'd have and add about smacking someone with their Palm or wacking off.

and why don't they put some damn close on the Albino. The pre's barely in the commerical. i can't even see what they are doing. Amazing that these people have jobs. Palm must have bought these commercials in bulk. if you're going to not show the product you gotta exude some cool. example 1. i don't like becks but i do like adidas and this is a cool commercial that's could easily convey a Pre sort of lifestyle just shove the phone in somewhere.

These ads are SO TERRIBLE it makes me wonder if there's some nefarious plan to doom the Palm Pre by devout iPhone users who work over at Modernista. That's how terrible these ads are...

But ultimately it's Palm's fault. WTF are they thinking?!!!!

July 23, 2009 | Unregistered Commentervara411

is it an TV ad?
although, i guess palm really suck with marketing thing
you can tell from how slow they are . . .

even though I'm still waiting but I almost out of my patient now
it almost august and still no sign of the pre to release in australia at all . . .

*sigh* should I just get a blackberry?

Hi folks
You have to understand one thing.
Those ads are NOT intended for techies and geeks. They are tailered for 'normal' people and especially women.
Due to its spec and webOS, techies will get this smartphone anyhow.
So its intended to attract a new group of users to the device.
Even being a techie, I love those ads. And believe me: They are so powerful: Because it is so nicely based on telling a story and using metaphors.

To all the geeks, techies and others, who do not really like those ads:
=> Just love them for the fact, that they attract new user groups and therefore increase the palm user base! :-)

Best regards from Switzerland,
Rolf

@Rolf

You're wrong. They don't attract anyone. If anything, they are DETRACTING people from the phone with the ads creepiness.

This isn't my opinion. It's a fact. 'Cause I said so.

I will buy by a Pre if the OS and functionality are as reliable as these are in their ability to be creepy.

July 27, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterSteve

Curious that the iPhone and Blackberry adverts generally show the product, doing the things it can do. Downloading an app, running an app, taking a call, loading a map, etc.

With that formula established, why on Earth would Palm create ads that either creep folks out (this ad), barely show the product (this ad) or spend time showing things the product CANNOT do (causing billboards to display SMS messages, emails to appear on clouds, etc.).

Hoping for "pity purchases" over the USB spoofing fiasco (bad Apple, following industry USB ID practices!) is NOT a marketing plan!
