Review: BestSkinsEver Full Body shield for Palm Pre

There's InvisibleSHIELD or Ghost Armor for about $25, then there's a cheaper alternative for just 8 bucks + Free Shipping. I'm talking about BestSkinsEver. Read on for our review and impression of it.

[Special thanks to Lori P. and BestSkinsEver!]

Out of the Envelope:

First off, it comes in an envelope unlike most other shields which often arrives in a box or mailer. And the reason being, the squeegee and solution spray are not included. On the flip side, you can easily find replacements of those 2 items in the house.
In the envelope: Plastic firm (Front & Back), installation instructions. That's it.

Installation:

The usual procedure -- peel off firm, spray, align, squeegee out the bubbles, and wait.

Use a credit card or something similar as the squeegee. And for the solution "mix about a thumbnail size drop of mild liquid soap (baby shampoo works best) with about 10 oz. of water to make the application solution." It makes sense, save some of your money.

Installation was extremely simple, because maybe it's my second time.

3 days after installation:

Not even a single visible bubble.

It protects even the logo.

*Pats myself on the back*

After removal:

It did leave a tiny bit of adhesives, but a quick wipe with a cleaning cloth does the job.

Conclusion:

If you don't want to shell out too much of your pocket, this be your option. Great coverage of the device, especially the corners. Easy installation and removal. And lastly, less impact on the environment.

Pros:

  • Only 8 bucks with free shipping
  • Covers most of the device
  • Same material vs. other more expensive brands

Cons:

  • Doesn't come with the squeegee and solution spray, but that's OK I got it for cheap.
  • Minimal packaging is good for the environment. :)

Good job on the application process, that cover makes it look glossy. I need to hurry up and cop me something to protect my Pre.. .

Nice job. I just had to remove the Invisible shield (front only) due to misapplication. Might look into this as an alternative!

I love that "minimal packaging is good for the environment" is a con.

I used a BestSkinsEver skin on my iPhone and loved it, so I made sure to order one as soon as I switched to the Pre. The install was quick and easy, and the material is fantastic. It handles skin oils so much better than the Pre's touchscreen, and I love the slight grip it gives to the back of the phone. I highly recommend these guys!

Just installed a BestSkinsEver skin, and it already looks great. No bubbles after the installation, and I'm sure it will look even better tomorrow. Best 8 dollars ever spent!

@James Taylor

Same here, little to no bubbles right after installation. What are they doing right here?

Love my Pre. Definitely going to look into protecting it one way or another.

Looks like a lot of orange peel. Did some of that go away after a few days?

July 8, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterEric

I've heard that with Ghost Armor you can minimize the orange peel look by using a hair dryer on Low setting. Is this also possible with this? What is the best way to avoid orange peel with this one?

thanks for the comments everyone...I am going to buy one for me and my brother's Pre right now

Would anyone recommend this over Ghost Armor or the InvisibleSHIELD?

@Eric:
"Looks like a lot of orange peel. Did some of that go away after a few days?"

What orange? I don't see any orange!

Truth be told; I just installed bestskinsever on my Pre on 7/7/09 around 8:30 pm, the corners were the harder ones, I deep the skins in a bowl with warm water and a bit of baby shampoo, than instead of a squeegee I used a Credit Card, than I used the blow dryer in low setting, and almost instantly the flat surface on the screen and the one on back were bubbles free, I did not see any orange, also, I didn't wait 24 hrs. to turn the Pre on, by 8am next morning I turn the phone on and since than it looks great, btw, this is the first time I install skins on a phone, so not bad for a first timer :-)

@iyc
Hell YEA!!!
When I order mine they were $4.99 + $2 shipping I payed in total $6.99, think how much you save in comparison with those other brands for the same material!
Even if the price went up to $8, so what, it's still cheaper and better, you can buy 2 just in case and still spend less than one set of the other ones!

why the wait time before turning the Pre back on?

August 2, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterDarmetheon

@Darmetheon

To avoid water damage I guess. But I had my Pre on anyway.

I am thinking to change the snap on or skin for my palm, There are lots of cute snap-ons, skins, and even skin films are available out there, I fell kind of loaded with them
