Leaked webOS 1.2.0 reveals upcoming features

go4craig over at the PreCentral forums, was using the webOS Doctor method to restore the Pre back to factory settings and accidentally gotten hold of the next webOS update, 1.2.0 (Palm fixed the link), revealing some interesting stuff.
First one not a surprise, option to add your credit card information in App Catalog, welcoming the pay apps. Which means 1.2 should land sometime this month.
Text and Image selection in the Browser, for copy and paste. Very nice.
Little tweaks here and there.
The official update should't be to far away...

Excited to see the move to more robust copy/paste. I just hope they're holding many excellent apps in the wings - there are no more than 5 in the catalog now that are worth anything. Can't wait for the update. Don't forget to uninstall any patches or mods you've used with QuickInstall before you update!!
Though I initially was a huge fan of the Pre, I'm starting to become somewhat disillusioned with the every day use of it and I don't just mean the app store.
Hopefully there are more than just a few little tweaks. I'd like to see the phone do some simple things, including: Actually answer the call when I hit the button, dial the number I touch when I touch it, and respond when I move stuff around without a 3 second lag.
Who cares if a phone can run apps in the background if you can barely use it to call people without spending an extra minute to handle each call?
Rick,
I've found a system reboot (press Orange-Sym-R simultaneously) every couple of days really helps performance, especially if I've been doing a lot of multi-tasking. I usually do it right before I go to bed so I'm not waiting for it to reboot.
Obviously not an ideal solution, but it does only take a minute or so, and we are dealing with a first generation device running a barely out of BETA 1.x operating system. There are bound to be memory leaks and such that bog down performance from time to time.
I've already noticed improvements in the 1.1 update and am hopeful that they will continue to improve performance and stability as the OS matures.
But can I please get a message indication light (so I don't have to open the phone to see if I missed a call or a txt) and an "official" way to change the sounds for each message type? I mean the homebrew kids had that working like a week after launch... how hard is this Palm? Just incorporate their app into your next release :-)
Rick: if u are complaining of lag times with loading then perhaps u are not multitasking optimally? I always have my top 5 apps open at a time. When I wanna use em I just flick over to them without having to wait for them to load.
re
As for lag times, I have found occasional reboots to help, but when I did a FULL erase (for a different reasons), I found my Pre was suddenly flying! I unfortunately think the secret might be not adding too many videos and music, at least until Palm figures out how to better handle memory management.Make sure you read up on doing full erases. There's things you will lose (homebrew, memos, bookmarks, anything in USB folders) that perhaps you didn't think you would....... :-/
Something I've noticed that my Centro used to do and that I miss is individual SMS threading from non-phone number senders. IE, my various servers, games, and sometimes myself (as little reminders), send emails to my phones SMS email address. The Pre just lumps all of these into a single thread from "6245" rather than distinguishing them as individual email senders. The Centro had individual threads from things like alerts@server.com or me@here.net, just like it does form normal phone number/contact SMS messages. I really miss that and hope it can be fixed...
Also, how about adding the date in the top bar next to the time?! That so irritates me on my iPod touch that it's just the time. c'mon there's plenty of space for "2009.09.04 17:04"
I have to agree with Rick really. There are more pressing things that need "updated" on the phone, like its basic functions - i fall more out of love with my PRE everyday. "Rebooting" once a day does not fix any of the the real issues - and lag is not what we are complaining about ;)
