Verizon confirms Palm Pre again, this time via Twitter

Well another person at Verizon has decided to let someone know that the Palm Pre is on its way to Verizon. This time their tweeting on Twitter from the Verizon Wireless Offers Twitter account 'VZWOffers'. Verizon is currently the largest carrier in the U.S. with the largest 3G coverage area (if you haven't seen Verizon's 'There's a Map for That' commercial it's a must). There are a lot of big name smartphones on their way to Verizon this year including the BlackBerry Storm 2, which our friends over at FoneFrenzy have a nice video of and two Android devices; the rumored Motorola Sholes, and what looks like the HTC Hero. All these devices are exciting but we all get this tingly feeling that Verizon's big launch is going to be the Palm Pre, which they have said numerous times will be out some time in Q1 of 2010. Various Sources Confirm Palm Pre Is Coming To Verizon

Various sources have confirmed that the Palm Pre WILL be coming to Verizon. Verizon has denied rumors of the past couple of days that it had decided not to carry the Pre. Jim Gerace, the executive director of media relations at Verizon, told the E-Commerce Times that the wireless provider will offer the smartphone in January as planned.

The only issues that could be affecting the deal is the VCast store. "Verizon has been talking about its VCast Store, and Palm is setting up its own app store, so that could be the problem," Allen Nogee, a principal analyst at In-Stat, stated. "It's possible that Verizon wants to keep the number of app stores available to subscribers to a minimum."

Verizon to sell the Pre Early Next Year

We all know Verizon is bound to get the Pre next year, which has been reported numerous times before. But just in case you missed the older posts, Verizon said it again: On a conference call today, Verizon's president said that the company will begin selling the Palm Pre 'early next year', right after Sprint loosens its grip on the Pre. And at this point, it looks to be January.

Palm Pre running on Verizon with a little hacking

Cleanser over at PreCentral forums, has managed to hack his way to get voice and SMS service on Verizon's network. However, data is a no go, yet. According to Cleanser, the hardest part was getting Verizon to add the MEID of the device, despite Verizon's talk of an open network access. 

It's cool to see some unlocking action happening with the Pre, but no one's gonna pry me out of Sprint's hands.
